Daimler Buses Italia will supply 110 x 12 m versions of Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro to Autoservizi Troiani Srl by 2026. The buses are fully electric and emission‑free, and will be used for local public transport in the eastern suburbs of the city of Rome, a territorial area in which the company has been operating a consignment share since the start of the year.

On 16 September, during the opening of European Mobility Week, Autoservizi Troiani showcased the first 10 vehicles that were consigned by Daimler Buses Italia to the authorities of Rome. These buses will serve residents in the eastern quadrant of Rome (Grotte Celoni, Ponte Mammolo, Pantano, Rebibbia, Torre Maura, EUR and other nearby areas).

"Today, we are very proud to present the first 10 completely electric buses, marking an important milestone in our commitment to environmentally sustainable mobility" said Giovanni Troiani, Chairman of Autoservizi Troiani, confirming the company's focus on environmental protection.

The deployment of these vehicles marks the first time that the electric fleet is no longer exclusively used in the historic centre of Rome, but finally extends to the outskirts. This signals the beginning of the project declared by the company to fully convert its suburban public transport segment to electromobility.

This first delivery will, as mentioned, be followed by the consignment of another 30 buses by 2024, with the goal of completing the delivery of the remaining 70 eCitaro buses by mid‑2026.

Autoservizi Troiani, with its contract for the supply of 110 Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro buses, 65 of which are equipped with NMC3 batteries and 45 of which are equipped with NMC4 batteries, is renewing its partnership with Daimler Buses Italia, which was already formalised with the delivery of 40 Mercedes‑Benz Citaro hybrid buses in 2024 January.

Stefano Giordani, CEO and Chairman of Daimler Buses Italy: "Autoservizi Troiani's decision to collaborate with Daimler Buses in this ambitious electromobility project in Rome underlines the reliability of our vehicles in terms of safety and efficiency. Our NMC3 batteries allow buses to travel for up to 280 km without recharging. Our safety systems exceed the GSR‑B standards, thus reducing driver stress, while the buses' anti‑roll and anti‑pitch systems ensure a high level of passenger comfort. This mix of elements enables us to offer public transport companies the highest level of safety, comfort and cost savings."

The first 10 eCitaro buses are fully electric, low‑floor city buses are equipped with the latest NMC3 batteries, which guarantee a range of around 280 kilometres on a single charge.

The distinctive design of the new Mercedes‑Benz buses are noted for their dark red colour and white Autoservizi Troiani lettering, which is easily recognisable in city traffic. The vehicles, which are just over 12 metres long, are equipped with three doors and can carry up to 73 passengers, in addition to the driver. They have 26 seats and space for 47 standing passengers. The spacious interior and seating of the Mercedes‑Benz City Star Eco ensures on‑board comfort. Moreover, passengers with reduced mobility can enjoy a manual folding ramp for easy access, and there is a dedicated wheelchair area.

The safety features, which comply with the European GSR‑B regulation, include Sideguard Assist. The buses are also equipped with air‑conditioning systems for the passenger compartment and antiviral filters to ensure increased safety inside the vehicle.
