Stuttgart/Versailles/Hanover, 19 September 2012. Its innovations have helped it to knock the technical pioneers of a new era out of the running: In this year's battle for the title "Bus of the Year" the new Citaro with its Euro VI engine convinced the jury of international experts on many counts of its merits over the competition, which had nearly all gone for hybrid technology. The new Citaro is thus the first series production regular-service bus to be fitted with a Euro VI engine and continues to extend its competitive advantage. In order to meet Euro VI standards, the buses need to be fitted with a complex exhaust treatment system: They make use of the established SCR technology from Mercedes-Benz, consisting of AdBlue injection and an oxidising catalytic converter with exhaust gas recirculation and a closed particulate filter.
