Outstanding overland.

Combines so much –  including price and performance.

The Intouro from Mercedes-Benz is the epitome of efficiency – and once again manifests its pioneering position as a cost-conscious, versatile and reliable link between town and country. The Intouro is suitable for a variety of uses. In addition to the classic interurban service, this includes, for example, use as a shuttle bus, as a bus for transporting staff within a plant or factory and, depending on the country, also as a school bus. Due to its wide range of features, the new Intouro is also suitable for excursions and short trips.

Wide range of uses.

From interurban route to excursions.

The Mercedes-Benz Intouro is tailor-made for the price-sensitive business segment on interurban routes. In addition to the classic interurban service, this also includes use as a shuttle bus, as a bus for transporting staff within a plant or factory and, depending on the country, also as a school bus. Thanks to its wide range of features, the Intouro is also ideal for excursions and short trips.

Companies can use it in combination as a so-called double earner: during the week on scheduled and company services, at weekends for comfort-oriented excursions and day trips. The target group of the Intouro is therefore broad. It comprises the tendering business apart from low-floor buses in the interurban bus segment, school bus and works transport as well as individual sales. The Intouro thus addresses both public fleet operators and private companies. It is therefore the ideal candidate for a wide range of uses.

Design & Comfort

Beautifully thought out.

The Intouro’s design and features.

The Intouro impresses with equipment that is more than suitable for everyday use. With an interior headroom of more than two metres to the front of the rear axle, there is plenty of space for standing passengers in regular service. The exterior and interior design are as straightforward as they are distinctive. The interurban bus is available in a basic version or, optionally, in the premium version with design package.

The driver’s area is designed based on ergonomic principles. The Cockpit Basic has a multifunction steering wheel and all the instruments are clearly arranged and easily accessible without changing the seating position. The multifunction steering wheel and the high-resolution TFT colour display with intuitive stack-and-cards menu simplify work in the cockpit behind the wheel.

The passenger compartment of the Intouro has a modular design, with individual versions ranging from strictly cost-oriented interurban buses to comfortable equipment for excursions. The seats are arranged on platforms and can be moved up to the front of the rear axle without any incline, while numerous convenience extras such as TravelStar Eco seating or service sets with nozzle ventilation and reading lights are available for upmarket leisure travel.

The Intouro’s body reflects the clear design language – from the steeply rising windscreen and the brand-typical unit of grille and headlights to the straight side walls. These are almost seamlessly smooth and, like the rear end, have a strictly functional shape – which is visible, for example, on the engine flap without ventilation slits. Bumper corners and the door 1, which is made of sheet metal in the lower area, ensure ease of repair.

Legal notice on active safety assistance systems: Emergency braking systems and other safety assistance systems can support the driver and mitigate the severity of accidents or prevent accidents in critical driving situations under optimal conditions, within the system limits. However, irrespective of this, the driver has a duty to adapt his driving behaviour and in particular his speed to the traffic and weather conditions and to be attentive at all times. This applies in particular to special situations such as icy or wet roads, rain, crosswind, poor visibility, snowfall, fog, etc. Consequently, the driver, as the driver of the vehicle, has the responsibility for the entire driving situation at all times and must not rely exclusively on the safety assistance systems.

Assistance systems can only support drivers. The driver is always fully responsible for driving the vehicle safely.

Safety

With safety and foresight.

The integral safety concept of Mercedes-Benz.

MirrorCam

The modern MirrorCam system provides a clear and full view of the road traffic. Equipped with high-resolution cameras, the driving safety is improved and the risk of accidents is minimised. The extended field of vision enables the driver to see pedestrians, cyclists and other road users in the surrounding area. This eliminates the blind spot when turning right.

High beam assistant

The high beam assistant automatically switches the high beam on or off depending on traffic, so that optimum illumination of the road is always ensured. In this way, it contributes to greater safety through improved lighting conditions and optimized illumination, and increases driving comfort and safety.

The function can be activated or deactivated. It is active from a speed of approximately 20 mph (35 km/h) and is automatically deactivated below a speed of approximately 15 mph (27 km/h). The function adapts to the illumination/brightness of the surroundings (no automatic switching on if there is sufficient street lighting).

The emergency braking system ABA 6 assists the driver by automatically initiating emergency braking if there is a risk of rear-impact collision with vehicles in front or stationary obstacles. It also detects moving or stationary persons and cyclists in front of the vehicle. The system reacts to this with an acoustic and visual warning to the driver as well as an automatically initiated partial braking or emergency braking.

The Electronic Stability Program significantly reduces the risk of skidding by selectively braking individual wheels, thus preventing loss of control of the vehicle in curves and emergency steering manoeuvres.

Lane Assist (SPA) detects when the vehicle unintentionally leaves a marked lane. If it crosses the markings, the driver is warned by a clear vibration through the driver’s seat.

The 360° camera system consists of four cameras that capture the immediate vehicle environment and generate an indirect all-round view. The associated 10" screen is located on the A-pillar above the cockpit. This system allows pedestrians, cyclists and obstacles to be seen even in areas that are otherwise not visible to the driver. In this way, the system increases road safety, as collision hazards can be detected and, at best, prevented.

Traffic Sign Assist (TSA)

The innovative Traffic Sign Assist offers maximum safety and comfort on the road. Thanks to GPS and camera support, the vehicle speed is constantly compared with the current traffic regulations.

The system is designed to provide dedicated and appropriate feedback if the permitted speed is exceeded. Thanks to the state-of-the-art instrument cluster, the driver receives both visual and audible signals that immediately draw attention to the speed.

Sideguard Assist 2 & Frontguard Assist

Sideguard Assist 2

Sideguard Assist 2 is a safety assistance system that supports the driver in critical situations when turning right or turning left when visibility is possibly restricted. The system is designed to help detect moving obstacles within the system limits, and warns the driver so as to avoid critical situations or reduce the consequences of accidents when turning off or changing lanes.

Bi-xenon headlamps

Compared with halogen headlamps, bi-xenon headlamps mean better illumination of the road surface with less energy consumption and a longer life.

Rain-light sensor

The rain sensor and automatic driving light are assist systems that activate automated functions by means of a sensor system and relieve the driver of routine tasks.

AquaBlade® windscreen wipers

The AquaBlade® windscreen wipers ensure optimum visibility at all times and, thanks to an ergonomic design, minimise both driving noise and fuel consumption.

Intouro hybrid

Straight-forward technology without the need for a high-voltage system.

The Intouro hybrid's technology is as simple as it is convincing. The energy generated by recuperation is stored in capacitors, also known as supercaps. These are ideal for continuous switchovers between charging and discharging when stopping and moving off. The second key component of its advanced hybrid drive is the electric motor. The unit is used in the Intouro hybrid between the combustion engine and the automatic transmission. It generates an output of 14 kW and a peak torque of 220 Nm. The electric motor supports the combustion engine in the event of high power requirements. It does not, however, serve to increase the maximum output, which is why the output and torque figures for the intercity bus remain unchanged. The electric motor acts as a supplement to the combustion engine, thereby noticeably reducing fuel consumption. Compared with other hybrid drives, the Intouro hybrid dispenses with unnecessary voltage: instead of a complex high-voltage system, it features a separate 48-volt system. This is classed as low-voltage technology and is therefore safer to handle. In this context, the new Intouro hybrid once again shows off its easy-to-use features.

The intelligent use of kinetic energy.

Uncomplicated technology without a high-voltage network: instead of an expensive high-voltage network, it has a separate 48-volt network. This is low-voltage technology and is safe to handle.

Who brakes wins

The vehicle with a 48 V hybrid system impresses with its increased economy and sustainability through lower fuel consumption and reduced exhaust emissions. To achieve this, the diesel engine is supported by the propulsive power of a highly efficient hybrid module. The module's 14 kW electric motor generates energy when coasting and braking, and supports the diesel engine when starting and idling. The energy management system is self-sufficient and therefore supports the unchanged driving behaviour and familiar operation for the driver.

The system consists of an electric motor, an inverter, two storage modules (Mild Hybrid Storages) on the roof and an additional cooling circuit for the electric motor and inverter. The disc-shaped and very robustly designed electric motor is integrated between the combustion engine and the automatic transmission. Among other things, it works as a generator when the bus decelerates and converts thrust energy into electricity – during braking and when the gas is removed (recuperation). The generated electricity is stored as electrical energy in the storage modules.

As soon as the bus starts from a standstill, the electric motor supports the diesel unit with its torque – the so-called boost phase. In this way, the combustion engine temporarily has to apply less power when starting up, thus saving fuel. In addition, the electric motor supports idling. This improves the efficiency of the combustion engine and contributes to significantly reduced fuel consumption and thus reduced emissions. The safety concept of the hybrid system is based on the low voltage of 48 V-DC (direct current). This means that there is no need for extensive training of the driving personnel and workshop staff, nor for special tools or special spare parts.
